Dear NAMI friends,

Many of you have shared stories about why you walk for NAMI: to raise awareness; to honor or remember a loved one; to fight the discrimination that still persists around mental illness, although it is treatable, like any other illness.

I walk in loving memory of my dear friend Ward, who never received proper mental health care in his lifetime.

Ward in 1996Ward in 1996

Ward died at age 50 of a preventable illness. He became the statistic that should be an outrage: people living with a mental illness die an average of 25 years earlier than the rest of the population.

You can help us change this statistic.

By walking and raising funds and awareness for NAMI, you can help us keep fighting for better access to care for those who need it. Your efforts will help us serve people in crisis: those living with mental illness, their families, and loved ones.
