Our ten- year- old son has bipolar disorder.  As a mother, it breaks my heart that my son has to deal with this illness, and I dread what the future may hold for him.  I try to stay positive, be active in his life, and take one day at a time.  My goals are to make sure he can manage successfully as an adult, and have a wonderful life.  My husband,  and I walk because we want our son to know that he has people out there that support him, and will always be there for him through good times and bad.  Last year he was overjoyed to see all the family and  friends that showed up to walk in his honor.  That meant the world to me and my husband.  This year I will be a team captain again, and my goal is to get as many family and friends as I can to walk with us, and support not only our family, but all the families that have a friend or family member with a mental illness.   I support the NAMI organization because I, too, want to fight the stigma that comes with mental illnesses.  The NAMI Walk is a very special event for our family and I’m proud to be a part of it.
